Chapter 65: Daśaratha’s Wives Lament About his Departure
Text 2.65.19
ते च दृष्ट्वा तदा सुप्ते उभे देव्यौ च तं नृपम्।
सुप्तमेवोद्गतप्राणमन्तःपुरमदृश्यत॥
te ca dṛṣṭvā tadā supte ubhe devyau ca taṁ nṛpam
suptam evodgata-prāṇam antaḥ-puram adṛśyata
te ca = the people; dṛṣṭvā = noticed; tadā = then; supte = were asleep; ubhe = that both; devyau = the queens; ca = and; tam nṛpam = that the king; suptam eva = while asleep; udgata-prāṇam = had died; antaḥ-puram = in the inner quarters; adṛśyata = realized.
The people in the inner quarters noticed that both the queens were then asleep and realized that the king had died while asleep.
