Chapter 66: Daśaratha’s Ministers Preserve his Body
Text 2.66.11
वृद्धश्चैवाल्पपुत्रश्च वैदेहीमनुचिन्तयन्।
सोऽपि शोकसमाविष्टो ननु त्यक्ष्यति जीवितम्॥
vṛddhaś caivālpa-putraś ca vaidehīm anucintayan
so ’pi śoka-samāviṣṭo nanu tyakṣyati jīvitam
vṛddhaḥ = Janaka is old; ca eva = and; alpa-putraḥ ca = he has only one child; vaidehīm = about Vaidehī; anucintayan = constantly worrying; saḥ = he; api = also; śoka-samāviṣṭaḥ = will become overwhelmed by sorrow; nanu = indeed; tyakṣyati = he will give up; jīvitam = his life.
Janaka is old and has only one child. Constantly worrying about Vaidehī, he will also become overwhelmed by sorrow. Indeed, he will give up his life.
