Chapter 66: Daśaratha’s Ministers Preserve his Body
Text 2.66.13
तां ततः संपरिष्वज्य विलपन्तीं तपस्विनीम्।
व्यपनीय सुदुःखार्तां कौसल्यां व्यावहारिकाः॥
tāṁ tataḥ sapariṣvajya vilapantīṁ tapasvinīm
vyapanīya suduḥkhārtāṁ kausalyā vyāvahārikāḥ
tām = her; tataḥ = then; sapariṣvajya = embraced [her husband’s body]; vilapantīm = and lamented; tapasvinīm = in sorrow; vyapanīya = had taken away; suduḥkha-ārtām = she was tormented by great distress; kausalyā = when Kausalyā [thus]; vyāvahārikāḥ = the royal officials.
When Kausalyā [thus] embraced [her husband’s body] and lamented in sorrow, the royal officials then had her taken away. She was tormented by great distress.
The royal officials were ministers who had been deputed to handle all external and internal royal affairs. They had Kausalyā taken away from her husband and sent elsewhere.
