गते तु शोकात्रिदिवं नराधिपे महीतलस्थासु नृपाङ्गनासु च।
निवृत्तचारः सहसा गतो रविः प्रवृत्तचारा रजनी ह्युपस्थिता॥
gate tu śokās tri-divaṁ narādhipe
mahī-talasthāsu nṛpāṅganāsu ca
nivṛtta-cāraḥ sahasā gato raviḥ
pravṛtta-cārā rajanī hy upasthitā
gate tu = had departed; śokāḥ = because of his distress [on being separated from] his son; tri-divam = to the heavens; nara-adhipe = the king; mahī-talasthāsu = on earth; nṛpa-aṅganāsu ca = amidst the queens; nivṛtta-cāraḥ sahasā gataḥ raviḥ = at that time, the sun quickly stopped spreading its rays; pravṛtta-cārā = to spread darkness; rajanī hi = while the night; upasthitā = arrived.
Because of his distress [on being separated from] his son, the king had departed to the heavens amidst the queens on earth. At that time, the sun quickly stopped spreading its rays while the night arrived to spread darkness.
