Chapter 66: Daśaratha’s Ministers Preserve his Body
Text 2.66.25
बाष्पपर्याकुलजना हाहाभूतकुलाङ्गना।
शून्यचत्वरवेश्मान्ता न बभ्राज यथापुरम्॥
bāṣpa-paryākula-janā hā-hā-bhūta-kulāṅganā
śūnya-catvara-veśmāntā na babhrāja yathā-puram
bāṣpa-paryākula-janāḥ = the men in the city were distressed with tears in their eyes; hā-hā-bhūta-kula-aṅganāḥ = the family ladies in the city [simply] cried out, “alas!”; śūnya-catvara-veśma-antāḥ = the junctions and gateways of the city were deserted; na babhrāja = the city did not shine; yathā-puram = as before.
The men in the city were distressed with tears in their eyes. The family ladies in the city [simply] cried out, “Alas!” The junctions and gateways of the city were deserted. The city did not shine as before.
