Chapter 69: Bharata’s Distressing Dreams
Text 2.69.11
स्वप्नेऽपि सागरं शुष्कं चन्द्रं च पतितं भुवि।
उपरुद्धां च जगतीं तमसेव समावृताम्॥
śvapne ’pi sāgaraṁ śuṣkaṁ candraṁ ca patitaṁ bhuvi
uparuddhāṁ ca jagatīṁ tamaseva samāvṛtām
śvapne api = in the dream; sāgaram = I saw the ocean; śuṣkam = dry up; candram ca = the moon; patitam = fall; bhuvi = to the ground; uparuddhām = disappear; ca = and; jagatīm = the land; tamasā = by darkness; iva = as if; samāvṛtām = covered up.
“In the dream, I saw the ocean dry up, the moon fall to the ground and the land disappear as if covered up by darkness.
औपवाह्यस्य नागस्य विषाणं शकलीकृतम्।
सहसा चापि संशुष्कां ज्वलितां जातवेदसा॥
अवतीर्णां च पृथिवीं शुष्कांश्च विविधान्द्रुमान्।
अहं पश्यामि विध्वस्तान्सधुमांश्चापि पर्वतान्॥
