Chapter 71: Bharata Reaches Ayodhyā
Text 2.71.16

एकसाले स्थाणुमतीं विनते गोमतीं नदीम्।
व्यपायाद्राघवस्तूर्णं तीर्त्वा शोणां महानदीम्॥

ekasāle sthāṇumatīṁ vinate gomatīṁ nadīm
vyapāyād rāghavas tūrṇaṁ tīrtvā śoṇāṁ mahā-nadīm

ekasāle = at the village Ekasāla; sthāṇumatīm = Sthāṇumatī; vinate = at Vinata; gomatīm = the river Gomatī; nadīm = the river; vyapāyāt = and departed; rāghavaḥ = the descendant of Raghu; tūrṇam = quickly; tīrtvā = crossed; śoṇām = Śoṇā; mahā-nadīm = and then the great river.

The descendant of Raghu crossed the river Sthāṇumatī at the village Ekasāla, the river Gomatī at Vinata and then the great river Śoṇā and departed quickly.

Sthāṇumatī is so named because it had trees that appeared like pillars due to the constant flow of the water. Vinata was so named because it was in a low land. Gomatī was filled with a lot of water.
