Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 71: Bharata Reaches Ayodhyā
Text 2.71.35
किमहं त्वरया नीतः कारणेन विनानघ।
अशुभाशङ्कि हृदयं शीलं च पततीव मे॥
kim ahaṁ tvarayā nītaḥ kāraṇena vinānagha
aśubhāśaṅki hṛdayaṁ śīlaṁ ca patatīva me
kim = why have; aham = I been; tvarayā = quickly; nītaḥ = brought; kāraṇena vinā = without reason; anagha = O sinless one; aśubha-āśaṅki = fears the inauspiciousness; hṛdayam = heart; śīlam = My patience is; ca = and; patati iva = about to disappear; me = My.
O sinless one, why have I been quickly brought without reason? My heart fears the inauspicious and My patience is about to disappear.
Bharata wondered, “Why have I been quickly brought [here] by Vasiṣṭha without a statement of reason?” Bharata addressing the charioteer as “a sinless one” indicates that He was capable of thinking [carefully even under these circumstances].
