Chapter 72: Kaikeyī Informs Bharata About Daśaratha’s Death
Text 2.72.9
यन्मे धनं च रत्नं च ददौ राजा परंतपः।
परिश्रान्तं पथ्यभवत्ततोऽहं पूर्वमागतः॥
यन्मे धनं च रत्नं च ददौ राजा परंतपः।
परिश्रान्तं पथ्यभवत्ततोऽहं पूर्वमागतः॥
yat = that; me = Me; dhanam ca = while carrying the wealth; ratnam = jewels; ca = and; dadau = had given; rājā = the king; parantapaḥ = and scorcher of enemies [of Kekaya]; pariśrāntam = tired; pathi = on the way; abhavat = the vehicles became; tataḥ = therefore; aham = I; pūrvam = ahead; āgataḥ = came.
The vehicles became tired on the way while carrying the wealth and jewels that the king and scorcher of the enemies [of Kekaya] had given Me. Therefore, I came ahead.
The wealth has been described in the previous [chapter].
