Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 72: Kaikeyī Informs Bharata About Daśaratha’s Death
Text 2.72.11

शून्योऽयं शयनीयस्ते पर्यङ्को हेमभूषितः।
न चायमिक्ष्वाकुजनः प्रहृष्टः प्रतिभाति मा॥

śūnyo ’yaṁ śayanīyas te paryaṅko hema-bhūṣitaḥ
na cāyam ikṣvāku-janaḥ prahṛṣṭaḥ pratibhāti mā

śūnyaḥ = is empty; ayam = here; śayanīyaḥ = fit for sleeping; te = your; paryaṅkaḥ = couch; hema-bhūṣitaḥ = gold-decorated; na ca ayam = no one; ikṣvāku-janaḥ = belonging to King Daśaratha; prahṛṣṭaḥ = is happy; pratibhāti = it appears to Me that.

Your gold-decorated couch fit for sleeping here is empty. It appears to Me that no one belonging to King Daśaratha is happy.

“Your couch is empty” indicates that Bharata’s father was not on this couch.
