Chapter 72: Kaikeyī Informs Bharata About Daśaratha’s Death
Text 2.72.14
तं प्रत्युवाच कैकेयी प्रियवद्धोरमप्रियम्।
अजानन्तं प्रजानन्ती राज्यलोभेन मोहिता॥
taṁ pratyuvāca kaikeyī priyavad ghoram apriyam
ajānantaṁ prajānantī rājya-lobhena mohitā
tam = Him; pratyuvāca = then told; kaikeyī = Kaikeyī; priyavat = it to be a pleasant piece of information; ghoram = about the terrible; apriyam = and unhappy news concerning the king; ajānantam = that He didn’t know about; prajānantī = she considered; rājya-lobhena = out of greed for securing the kingdom; mohitā = because she was bewildered.
Kaikeyī then told Him about the terrible and unhappy news concerning the king that He didn’t know about. She considered it to be a pleasant piece of information because she was bewildered out of greed for securing the kingdom.
