Chapter 72: Kaikeyī Informs Bharata About Daśaratha’s Death
Text 2.72.16
तच्छ्रुत्वा भरतो वाक्यं धर्माभिजनवाञ्शुचिः।
पपात सहसा भूमौ पितृशोकबलार्दितः॥
tac chrutvā bharato vākyaṁ dharmābhijanavāñ śuciḥ
papāta sahasā bhūmau pitṛ-śoka-balārditaḥ
tat = these; śrutvā = upon hearing; bharataḥ = Bharata; vākyam = words; dharma-abhijanavān = who was in a dynasty of dhārmika [kings]; śuciḥ = pure; papāta = fell down; sahasā = immediately; bhūmau = on the ground; pitṛ-śoka-bala-ārditaḥ = pained by the force of distress about His father.
Upon hearing these words, pure Bharata who was in a dynasty of dhārmika [kings] immediately fell down on the ground, pained by the force of distress about His father.
