Chapter 72: Kaikeyī Informs Bharata About Daśaratha’s Death
Text 2.72.17
हा हतोऽस्मीति कृपणां दीनां वाचमुदीरयन्।
निपपात महाबाहुर्बाहू विक्षिप्य वीर्यवान्॥
hā hato ’smīti kṛpaṇāṁ dīnāṁ vācam udīrayan
nipapāta mahā-bāhur bāhū vikṣipya vīryavān
hā = alas; hato asmi iti = I am dead; kṛpaṇām = the sorrowful; dīnām = and morose; vācam = words; udīrayan = uttering; nipapāta = and fell; mahā-bāhuḥ = the mighty-armed; bāhū = His arms about; vikṣipya = moved; vīryavān = and heroic Bharata.
Uttering the sorrowful and morose words, “Alas, I am dead!” the mighty-armed and heroic Bharata moved His arms about and fell.1
