दानयज्ञाधिकारा हि शीलश्रुतिवचोऽनुगा।
बुद्धिस्ते बुद्धिसंपन्न प्रभेवार्कस्य मन्दिरे॥
dāna-yajñādhikārā hi śīla-śruti-vaco-’nugā
buddhis te buddhi-sampanna prabhevārkasya mandire
dāna-yajña-adhikārā hi = Therefore it is capable of carrying out charity and sacrifices; śīla-śruti-vacaḥ-anugā = follows proper codes of conduct and the statements of the Veda; buddhiḥ = resolute determination; te = Your; buddhi-sampanna = intelligent Bharata; prabhā iva = it is like the brilliance; arkasya = of the sun; mandire = in his abode.
Intelligent Bharata, Your resolute determination follows proper codes of conduct and the statements of the Veda. Therefore it is capable of carrying out charity and sacrifices. It is like the brilliance of the sun in his abode.

The sungod’s brilliance is constant in his abode.
In some manuscripts, mandare appears instead of mandire indicating that the brilliance of the sun shines above the very high Mandara mountain for a longer period of time in comparison to other mountains. It shines more above the summit of the Mandara mountain. It is well known that the sun above the Mandara mountain is more brilliant in uttarāyaṇa.
GLOSS. Kaikeyī intended to tell Bharata, “Just as the illumination of the sun always penetrates the ocean, Your intelligence penetrates worldly and transcendental entities. Your intelligence is clear like the illumination of a crystal at home.”1
