Chapter 72: Kaikeyī Informs Bharata About Daśaratha’s Death
Text 2.72.27
अभिषेक्ष्यति रामं नु राजा यज्ञं नु यक्ष्यते।
इत्यहं कृतसंकल्पो हृष्टो यात्रामयासिषम्॥
abhiṣekṣyati rāmaṁ tu rājā yajñaṁ nu yakṣyate
ity ahaṁ kṛta-saṅkalpo hṛṣṭo yātrām ayāsiṣam
abhiṣekṣyati = will coronate; rāmam tu = Rāma; rājā = the king; yajñam nu = a sacrifice; yakṣyate iti = and perform; aham = I; kṛta-saṅkalpaḥ = had concluded; hṛṣṭaḥ = and so with delight; yātrām = on My [return] journey; ayāsiṣam = I embarked.
“I had concluded, ‘The king will coronate Rāma and perform a sacrifice’ and so with delight I embarked on My [return] journey.1
1 This was Bharata’s hope despite the bad dream and omens that He had seen.
