Chapter 72: Kaikeyī Informs Bharata About Daśaratha’s Death
Text 2.72.29
अम्ब केनात्यगाद्राजा व्याधिना मय्यनागते।
धन्या रामादयः सर्वे यैः पिता संस्कृतः स्वयम्॥
amba kenātyagād rājā vyādhinā mayy anāgate
dhanyā rāmādayaḥ sarve yaiḥ pitā saṁskṛtaḥ svayam
amba = mother; kena = due to; atyagāt = depart [to the heavens]; rājā = did the king; vyādhinā = which disease; mayi anāgate = before I came; dhanyāḥ = are fortunate; rāma-ādayaḥ sarve = Rāma and everyone else; yaiḥ = for they; pitā = for My father; saṁskṛtaḥ svayam = performed the final rites.
“Mother, due to which disease did the king depart [to the heavens] before I came? Rāma and everyone else are fortunate for they performed the final rites for My father.
