Chapter 72: Kaikeyī Informs Bharata About Daśaratha’s Death
Text 2.72.30
न नूनं मां महाराजः प्राप्तं जानाति कीर्तिमान्।
उपजिघ्रेद्धि मां मूर्ध्नि तातः संनम्य सत्वरम्॥
na nūnaṁ māṁ mahā-rājaḥ prāptaṁ jānāti kīrtimān
upajighred dhi māṁ mūrdhni tātaḥ sannāmya satvaram
na = did not; nūnam = certainly; mām = that I; mahā-rājaḥ = Mahārāja; prāptam = had arrived; jānāti = know; kīrtimān = the reputed; upajighret hi = and smelt; mām = My; mūrdhni = head; tātaḥ = my father; sannāmya = raised Me up; satvaram = for he would have quickly.
“Certainly my father, the reputed Mahārāja, did not know that I had arrived, for he would have quickly raised Me up and smelt My head.
