Chapter 72: Kaikeyī Informs Bharata About Daśaratha’s Death
Text 2.72.49
मया तु पुत्र श्रुत्वैव रामस्यैवाभिषेचनम्।
याचितस्ते पिता राज्यं रामस्य च विवासनम्॥
mayā tu putra śrutvaiva rāmasyaivābhiṣecanam
yācitas te pitā rājyaṁ rāmasya ca vivāsanam
mayā = I; tu = but; putra = son; śrutvā eva = as soon as heard about; rāmasya eva = Rāma’s; abhiṣecanam = coronation; yācitaḥ = I requested; te = Your; pitā = father; rājyam = to give You the kingdom; rāmasya = Rāma; ca = and; vivāsanam = exile.
Son, but as soon as I heard about Rāma’s coronation, I requested Your father to give You the kingdom and exile Rāma.
She intended to tell Bharata, “He had previously granted me two boons. I requested him to give You the kingdom and exile Rāma on the basis of those boons.”
