Chapter 73: Bharata Decides to Bring Rāma Back
Text 2.73.2
श्रुत्वा तु पितरं वृत्तं भ्रातरौ च विवासितौ।
भरतो दुःखसन्तप्त इदं वचनमब्रवीत्॥
śrutvā tu pitaraṁ vṛttaṁ bhrātarau ca vivāsitau
bharato duḥkha-santapta idaṁ vacanam abravīt
śrutvā tu = upon hearing; pitaram = that His father; vṛttam = had departed [from this world]; bhrātarau = that His two brothers; ca = and; vivāsitau = had been banished; bharataḥ = Bharata; duḥkha-santaptaḥ = became tormented in pain and; idam = the following; vacanam = words; abravīt = spoke.
Upon hearing that His father had departed [from this world] and that His two brothers had been banished, Bharata became tormented in pain and spoke the following words.
