Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 73: Bharata Decides to Bring Rāma Back
Text 2.73.24

तेषां धर्मैकरक्षाणां कुलचारित्रशोभिनाम्।
अत्र चारित्रशौण्डीर्यं त्वां प्राप्य विनिवर्तितम्॥

teṣāṁ dharmaika-rakṣāṇāṁ kula-cāritra-śobhinām
atra cāritra-śauṇḍīryaṁ tvāṁ prāpya vinivartitam

teṣām = of those kings; dharma-eka-rakṣāṇām = who exclusively followed Vedic dharma; kula-cāritra-śobhinām = and who shone in terms of their noble behavior appropriate to their lineage 4; atra = now; cāritra-śauṇḍīryam = the pride due to the conduct; tvām = you; prāpya = upon encountering; vinivartitam = has turned away.

The pride due to the conduct of those kings who exclusively followed Vedic dharma and who shone in terms of their noble behavior appropriate to their lineage has now turned away upon encountering you.

[The growth of ] the exalted position of the conduct of those kings has stopped by coming in contact with Kaikeyī. This is what Bharata meant to convey in this verse.

Having pointed out the conduct of His family lineage, in the next verse He points out the conduct of His mother’s family lineage.
