Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 73: Bharata Decides to Bring Rāma Back
Text 2.73.25

तवापि सुमहाभागा जनेन्द्राः कुलपूर्वगाः।
बुद्धेर्मोहः कथमयं सम्भूतस्त्वयि गर्हितः॥

tavāpi sumahā-bhāgā janendrāḥ kula-pūrvagāḥ
buddher mohaḥ katham ayaṁ sambhūtas tvayi garhitaḥ

tava = of your [lineage]; api = too; sumahā-bhāgāḥ = have been of good conduct; jana-indrāḥ = the kings; kula-pūrvagāḥ = they have favored the eldest in the family; buddheḥ = of intelligence; mohaḥ = delusion; katham = [so] how; ayam = this; sambhūtaḥ = did come about; tvayi = in you; garhitaḥ = condemned.

The kings of your [lineage] have been of good conduct. They too have favored the eldest in the family. [So] how did this condemned delusion of intelligence come about in you?

“Have favored the eldest in the family” means “have coronated the eldest [son as the king].”

He then set out His conclusion in the next [two verses].
