Chapter 74: Bharata Condemns Kaikeyī
Text 2.74.25
मम कायात्प्रसूतौ हि दुःखितौ भारपीडितौ।
यौ दृष्ट्वा परितप्येऽहं नास्ति पुत्रसमः प्रियः॥
mama kāyāt prasūtau hi duḥkhitau bhāra-pīḍitau
yau dṛṣṭvā paritapye ’haṁ nāsti putra-samaḥ priyaḥ
mama = my; kāyāt = of body; prasūtau hi = are born; duḥkhitau = they are distressed; bhāra-pīḍitau = and tormented by the weight [of their burden]; yau = these two bulls who; dṛṣṭvā = upon seeing; paritapye = lament; aham = I; na asti putra-samaḥ priyaḥ = there is none as dear as one’s son.
I lament upon seeing these two bulls who are born of my body. They are distressed and tormented by the weight [of their burden]. There is none as dear as one’s son.
Here the surabhi cow specifies that they are her sons.
GLOSS. On the basis of the statement here that these two bulls were born of the body of this kāmadhenu, it is understood that these two sons of hers had taken birth on earth for some reason.
