Chapter 75: Bharata’s Conversation with Kausalyā-devī
Text 2.75.40
पाने प्रसक्तो भवतु स्त्रीष्वक्षेषु च नित्यशः।
कामक्रोधाभिभूतस्तु यस्यार्योऽनुमते गतः॥
pāne prasakto bhavatu strīṣv akṣeṣu ca nityaśaḥ
kāma-krodhābhibhūtas tu yasyāryo ’numate gataḥ
pāne = to drinking; prasaktaḥ = addicted; bhavatu = may he become; strīṣu = women; akṣeṣu = and gambling; ca = and; nityaśaḥ = always; kāma-krodha-abhibhūtaḥ tu = overcome by lust and anger; yasya = whose; āryaḥ = noble Rāma; anumate = with consent; gataḥ = has departed [to the forest].
May he with whose consent noble Rāma has departed [to the forest] become addicted to drinking, women and gambling, and always overcome by lust and anger.1
1 All of these obviously lead to sinful reactions.
