धर्मदारान्परित्यज्य परदारान्निषेवताम्।
त्यक्तधर्मरतिर्मूढो यस्यार्योऽनुमते गतः॥
dharma-dārān parityajya para-dārān niṣevatām
tyakta-dharma-ratir mūḍho yasyāryo ’numate gataḥ
dharma-dārān = his religious wife; parityajya = abandon and; para-dārān = to another’s wife; niṣevatām = may he resort; tyakta-dharma-ratiḥ = giving up his attachment to dharma; mūḍhaḥ = and become foolish; yasya = whose; āryaḥ = noble Rāma; anumate = with consent; gataḥ = has departed [to the forest].
May he who consents to the noble Rāma’s departure [to the forest] abandon his religious wife and resort to another’s wife, giving up his attachment to dharma and become foolish.1
1 He who consents to Rāma’s departure will accrue sinful reactions that impel him to entangle himself in this manner.
