Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 75: Bharata’s Conversation with Kausalyā-devī
Text 2.75.53
विप्रलुप्तप्रजातस्य दुष्कृतं ब्राह्मणस्य यत्।
तदेव प्रतिपद्येत यस्यार्योऽनुमते गतः॥
vipralupta-prajātasya duṣkṛtaṁ brāhmaṇasya yat
tad eva pratipadyeta yasyāryo ’numate gataḥ
vipralupta-prajātasya = who has no children; duṣkṛtam = sinful reaction; brāhmaṇasya = experienced by a brāhmaṇa; yat tat eva = the; pratipadyeta = may he attain; yasya = whose; āryaḥ = noble Rāma; anumate = with consent; gataḥ = has departed [to the forest].
May he with whose consent noble Rāma has departed [to the forest] attain the sinful reaction experienced by a brāhmaṇa who has no children.
His having no children is itself the result of sins [committed in the past].
