Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 76: Bharata Performs the Final Rites for Daśaratha
Text 2.76.8
योगक्षेमं तु ते राजन्कोस्मिन्कल्पयिता पुरे।
त्वयि प्रयाते स्वस्तात रामे च वनमाश्रिते॥
yoga-kṣemaṁ tu te rājan ko ’smin kalpayitā pure
tvayi prayāte svas tāta rāme ca vanam āśrite
yoga-kṣemam tu = the yoga-kṣema; te = of yours; rājan = O king; kaḥ = who; asmin = of this; kalpayitā = will arrange for; pure = city; tvayi = now that you; prayāte = have departed; svaḥ = to Svarga; tāta = O father; rāme = Rāma; ca = and; vanam = to the forest; āśrite = has resorted.
O king, O father, now that you have departed to Svarga and Rāma has resorted to the forest, who will arrange for the yoga-kṣema of this city of yours?1
1 Yoga-kṣema refers to enterprise and security. Who will now provide what the citizens need and preserve what they have been provided?
GLOSS. “For your city Ayodhyā” indicates that Ayodhyā was meant to be taken care of [by King Daśaratha].
