Chapter 76: Bharata Performs the Final Rites for Daśaratha
Text 2.76.15
हिरण्यं च सुवर्णं च वासांसि विविधानि च।
प्रकिरन्तो जना मार्गं नृपतेरग्रतो ययुः॥
hiraṇyaṁ ca suvarṇaṁ ca vāsāṁsi vividhāni ca
prakiranto janā mārgaṁ nṛpater agrato yayuḥ
hiraṇyam ca = gold; suvarṇam ca = silver; vāsāṁsi = of cloth; vividhāni = different types; ca = and; prakirantaḥ = while scattering; janāḥ = people; mārgam = on the road; nṛpateḥ = of the king; agrataḥ = in front; yayuḥ = went.
People went in front of the king on the road while scattering gold, silver and different types of cloth.1
1 Gold and silver being scattered certainly indicates the astonishing opulence of the kingdom then
“Gold” and “silver” refer to flowers made out of gold and silver respectively.
