Chapter 78: Śatrughna Punishes Mantharā
Text 2.78.6

लिप्ता चन्दनसारेण राजवस्त्राणि बिभ्रती।
विविधं विविधैस्तैस्तैर्भूषणैश्च विभूषिता॥

liptā candana-sāreṇa rāja-vastrāṇi bibhratī
vividhaṁ vividhais tais tair bhūṣaṇaiś ca vibhūṣitā

liptā = she was smeared; candana-sāreṇa = with sandal paste; rāja-vastrāṇi = royal clothes; bibhratī = she wore; vividham = various; vividhaiḥ = kinds of; taiḥ taiḥ bhūṣaṇaiḥ = with ornaments; ca = and; vibhūṣitā = she was decorated.

She was smeared with sandal paste and she wore royal clothes. She was decorated with various kinds of ornaments.

Mantharā was wearing royal clothes, that is, clothes fit to be worn by royal [ladies]. These were given by Kaikeyī. “Clothes” is mentioned in the plural to indicate the upper cloth, lower cloth and so on. And each of them was decorated with ornaments appropriate to them. Each ornament was studded with jewels and so on. Tais taiḥ indicates that there were various kinds of ornaments in various shapes and forms to fit in the various parts of her body.
