Chapter 83: Bharata Reaches Śṛṅgiberapura
Text 2.83.10
इत्येवं कथयन्तस्ते संप्रहृष्टाः कथाः शुभाः।
परिष्वजानाश्चान्योन्यं ययुर्नागरिका जनाः॥
ity evaṁ kathayantas te samprahṛṣṭāḥ kathāḥ śubhāḥ
pariṣvajānāś cānyonyaṁ yayur nāgarikā janāḥ
iti evam = thus; kathayantaḥ = speaking; te = they; samprahṛṣṭāḥ = became very joyous; kathāḥ1 śubhāḥ = auspiciously; pariṣvajānāḥ ca = embracing; anyonyam = each other; yayuḥ = went ahead; nāgarikāḥ janāḥ = the residents of the city.
Thus speaking auspiciously, they became very joyous. Embracing each other, the residents of the city went ahead.
1 Technical note: kathayantaḥ śubhāḥ kathāḥ.
NOTE. Devotees of the Supreme Lord who constantly engage in such auspicious talks concerning the Supreme Personality of Godhead should be understood to be pure devotees. Prabhupāda describes their nature thus:
Pure devotees... engage themselves fully in the transcendental loving service of the Lord. Their minds cannot be diverted from the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa. Their talks are solely on the transcendental subjects... Devotees of the Supreme Lord are twenty-four hours daily engaged in glorifying the qualities and pastimes of the Supreme Lord. Their hearts and souls are constantly submerged in Kṛṣṇa, and they take pleasure in discussing Him with other devotees. (Bhagavad-gītā 10.9 purport)
