Chapter 85: Bharata Reveals His Intentions to Guha
Text 2.85.12
धन्यस्त्वं न त्वया तुल्यं पश्यामि जगतीतले।
अयत्नादागतं राज्यं यस्त्वं त्यक्तुमिहेच्छसि॥
dhanyas tvaṁ na tvayā tulyaṁ paśyāmi jagatī-tale
ayatnād āgataṁ rājyaṁ yas tvaṁ tyaktum ihecchasi
dhanyaḥ = blessed; tvam = You are; na = don’t; tvayā tulyam = anyone equal to You; paśyāmi = I find; jagatī-tale = on earth [because]; ayatnāt = effortlessly; āgatam = come to You; rājyam = a kingdom; yaḥ = it has; tvam = You; tyaktum = to give up; iha = now [when]; icchasi = want.
You are blessed! I don’t find anyone equal to You on earth [because] You want to give up a kingdom now [when] it has come to You effortlessly.
NOTE. Bharata had no desire for self-satisfaction. He was simply interested in satisfying Rāmacandra with no desire for a kingdom and so on. Persons who follow in the footsteps of Bharata are certainly perfect sannyāsīs and perfect yogīs as explained by Prabhupāda in his purport to Bhagavad-gītā (6.1):
A Kṛṣṇa conscious person has no desire for self-satisfaction. His criterion of success is the satisfaction of Kṛṣṇa, and thus he is the perfect sannyāsī, or perfect yogī. Lord Caitanya, the highest perfectional symbol of renunciation, prays in this way:
na dhanaṁ na janaṁ na sundarīṁ kavitāṁ vā jagad-īśa kāmaye
mama janmani janmanīśvare bhavatād bhaktir ahaitukī tvayi
“O Almighty Lord, I have no desire to accumulate wealth, nor to enjoy beautiful women. Nor do I want any number of followers. What I want only is the causeless mercy of Your devotional service in my life, birth after birth.”
