Chapter 85: Bharata Reveals His Intentions to Guha
Text 2.85.16
रामचिन्तामयः शोको भरतस्य महात्मनः।
उपस्थितो ह्यनर्हस्य धर्मप्रेक्षस्य तादृशः॥
rāma-cintāmayaḥ śoko bharatasya mahātmanaḥ
upasthito hy anarhasya dharma-prekṣasya tādṛśaḥ
rāma-cintāmayaḥ = in the form of anxiety over Rāma; śokaḥ = sorrow; bharatasya = Bharata; mahā-ātmanaḥ = though He was very sober; upasthitaḥ hi = overcame; anarhasya = and undeserving; dharma-prekṣasya = dhārmika in outlook; tādṛśaḥ = of such misery.
Sorrow in the form of anxiety over Rāma overcame Bharata though He was very sober, dhārmika in outlook, undeserving of such misery.
Bharata did not deserve [such] misery for He was born with opulences. Because Bharata was dhārmika in His outlook, He was free from any sin which is the root cause of sorrow. “Such misery” indicates that it was beyond the expression of speech and thought.
