Chapter 88: Bharata Laments About Rāma’s Predicament
Text 2.88.12

विदेहराजस्य सुता सीता च प्रियदर्शना।
दयिता शयिता भूमौ स्नुषा दशरथस्य च॥

videha-rājasya sutā sītā ca priya-darśanā
dayitā śayitā bhūmau snuṣā daśarathasya ca

videha-rājasya = of the king of Videha; sutā = is the daughter; sītā = Sītā-devī; ca priya-darśanā = [alas] that lady of beautiful appearance; dayitā = the beloved wife [of Rāma]; śayitā = has slept; bhūmau = on the ground; snuṣā = the daughter-in-law; daśarathasya = of Daśaratha; ca = and.

“Sītā-devī is the daughter of the king of Videha, the beloved wife [of Rāma] and the daughter-in-law of Daśaratha. [Alas,] that lady of beautiful appearance has slept on the ground!

Priya-darśanā (“that lady of beautiful appearance”) indicates that Sītā-devī didn’t deserve it, [that is, to sleep on the ground]. She was the beloved wife [of Rāma,] that is, dearer to Him than His very life.
