Chapter 88: Bharata Laments About Rāma’s Predicament
Text 2.88.13
इयं शय्या मम भ्रातुरिदं हि परिवर्तितम्।
स्थण्डिले कठिने सर्वं गात्रैर्विमृदितं तृणम्॥
iyaṁ śayyā mama bhrātur idaṁ hi parivartitam
sthaṇḍile kaṭhine sarvaṁ gātrair vimṛditaṁ tṛṇam
iyam = here is; śayyā = the bed; mama = My; bhrātuḥ = of brother; idam hi parivartitam = He tossed about here; sthaṇḍile = earth; kaṭhine = on this hard; sarvam = all; gātraiḥ = by His limbs; vimṛditam = have been trampled upon; tṛṇam = the grass.
“Here is the bed of My brother. He tossed about here. All the grass here on this hard earth have been trampled upon by His limbs.
“He tossed about here” indicates that when Rāma went to sleep, He turned His body this side and that out of excessive fatigue. The second line of this verse indicates that He had tossed about [during sleep].
