Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 89: Bharata Crosses Gaṅgā and Reaches Prayāga
Text 2.89.17
ताः स्म गत्वा परं तीरमवरोप्य च तं जनम्।
निवृत्ताः काण्डचित्राणि क्रियन्ते दाशबन्धुभिः॥
tāḥ sma gatvā paraṁ tīram avaropya ca taṁ janam
nivṛttāḥ kāṇḍa-citrāṇi kriyante dāśa-bandhubhiḥ
tāḥ = they; sma gatvā = reached; param = the other; tīram = shore; avaropya = disembarked; ca = and; tam janam = all of the passengers; nivṛttāḥ = returned; kāṇḍa-citrāṇi = interesting [ship motions] in the water 4; kriyante = exhibited; dāśa-bandhubhiḥ = [at that time] the friends of the fishermen.
They reached the other shore, disembarked all of the passengers and returned. [At that time,] the friends of the fishermen exhibited interesting [ship motions] in the water.
The boats [while returning] were without passengers or goods and hence they were extremely light. This verse states that the friends of the fishermen sported [in the water] while returning.
