Chapter 89: Bharata Crosses Gaṅgā and Reaches Prayāga
Text 2.89.18
सवैजयन्तास्तु गजा गजारोहप्रचोदिताः।
तरन्तः स्म प्रकाशन्ते सध्वजा इव पर्वताः॥
savaijayantās tu gajā gajāroha-pracoditāḥ
tarantaḥ sma prakāśante sadhvajā iva parvatāḥ
savaijayantāḥ tu = with their banners; gajāḥ = the elephants; gaja-āroha-pracoditāḥ = goaded by their drivers; tarantaḥ = while crossing [the river]; sma prakāśante = looked; sadhvajāḥ = moving; iva = like; parvatāḥ = mountains.
The elephants with their banners, goaded by their drivers, looked like moving mountains while crossing [the river].
Savaijayantāḥ also indicates that these elephants had howdahs.
