Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 91: Bharadvāja’s Hospitality to Bharata, His Army and Family
Text 2.91.16

आह्वये देवगन्धर्वान्विश्वावसुहहाहुहून्।
तथैवाप्सरसो देवीर्गन्धर्वीश्चापि सर्वशः॥

āhvaye deva-gandharvān viśvāvasu-hahā-huhūn
tathaivāpsaraso devīr gandharvīś cāpi sarvaśaḥ

āhvaye = I call; deva-gandharvān = the deva-gandharvas; viśvāvasu-hahā-huhūn = Viśvāvasu, Hāhā, Hūhū; tathā eva = and; apsarasaḥ = apsarās; devīḥ = devī; gandharvīḥ = gandharvī; ca api = and; sarvaśaḥ = all.

I call all the deva-gandharvas, Vivāvasu, Hāhā, Hūhū, devī and gandharvī-apsarās.

The sage called these personalities to sing. Apsarās are of two types: devīs and gandharvīs. The former belong to the deva species while the latter belong to the gandharva species. Therefore the Śruti contains usages [of expressions such as gandharva-apsarās]: ete vai gandharvāpsarasāṁ gṛhāḥ.

Deva-gandharvas are distinct from manuṣya-gandharvas.
