Chapter 91: Bharadvāja’s Hospitality to Bharata, His Army and Family
Text 2.91.24
मलयं दर्दुरं चैव ततः स्वेदनुदोऽनिलः।
उपस्पृश्य ववौ युक्त्या सुप्रियात्मा सुखः शिवः॥२४॥
malayaṁ darduraṁ caiva tataḥ sveda-nudo ’nilaḥ
upaspṛśya vavau yuktyā supriyātmā sukhaḥ śivaḥ
malayam = Malaya; darduram = Dardura; ca eva = and; tataḥ = then; sveda-nudaḥ = it removed their perspiration; anilaḥ = the wind; upaspṛśya = that had touched; vavau = blew; yuktyā = by touching the bodies [of all]; supriya-ātmā = it was naturally very nice; sukhaḥ = pleasant; śivaḥ = and cool.
Then the wind that had touched Malaya and Dardura blew. By touching the bodies of all, it removed their perspiration. It was naturally very nice, pleasant and cool.
Malaya is a place of sandalwood and Dardura is a mountain that produces sandalwood near Malaya. The wind was naturally very nice, that is, very fragrant. It is obvious that by calling Indra and the devas subordinate to Indra, the sage had already summoned Vāyu and others.
