Chapter 93: Bharata Initiates a Search for Rāma’s Residence
Text 2.93.10
मुञ्चन्ति कुसुमान्येते नगाः पर्वतसानुषु।
नीला इवातपापाये तोयं तोयधरा घनाः॥
muñcanti kusumāny ete nagāḥ parvata-sānuṣu
nīlā ivātapāpāye toyaṁ toya-dharā ghanāḥ
muñcanti = shed; kusumāni = flowers; ete = these; nagāḥ = bakula trees; parvata-sānuṣu = on the mountain summits; nīlāḥ = blue; iva = like; ātapa-apāye = at the end of summer; toyam = showering rain; toya-dharāḥ = clouds; ghanāḥ = dense.
These bakula trees on the mountain summits shed flowers like dense blue clouds showering rain at the end of summer.
“At the end of summer” means “during the rainy season.” The clouds were blue because they held water (toya-dharāḥ).
