Chapter 93: Bharata Initiates a Search for Rāma’s Residence
Text 2.93.22
ते समालोक्य धूमाग्रमूचुर्भरतमागताः।
नामनुष्ये भवत्यग्निर्व्यक्तमत्रैव राघवौ॥
te samālokya dhūmāgram ūcur bharatam āgatāḥ
nāmanuṣye bhavaty agnir vyaktam atraiva rāghavau
te = they; samālokya = having observed; dhūma-agram = a column of smoke; ūcuḥ = and said; bharatam = to Bharata; āgatāḥ = came; na = there cannot; amanuṣye = in a place bereft of men; bhavati = be; agniḥ = fire; vyaktam = certainly; atra eva = are here; rāghavau = the two descendants of Raghu.
Having observed a column of smoke, they came to Bharata and said, “There cannot be fire in a place bereft of men. The two descendants of Raghu are certainly here.
