Chapter 96: Lakṣmaṇa Notices Bharata’s Army
Text 2.96.3

तथा तत्रासतस्तस्य भरतस्योपयायिनः।
सैन्यरेणुश्च शब्दश्च प्रादुरास्तां नभःस्पृशौ॥

tathā tatrāsatas tasya bharatasyopayāyinaḥ
sainya-reṇuś ca śabdaś ca prādurāstāṁ nabhaḥ-spṛśau

tathā = thus; tatra = there; āsataḥ tasya = while Rāma was seated; bharatasya = of Bharata; upayāyinaḥ = who approached Him; sainya-reṇuḥ ca = the dust; śabdaḥ ca = and the sound of the army; prādurāstām = appeared; nabhaḥ-spṛśau = while touching the sky.

While Rāma was thus seated there, the dust and the sound of the army of Bharata, who approached Him, appeared while touching the sky.1

1 While Bharata came to Citrakūṭa to come to Rāma’s hermitage, Rāma could see the dust from Bharata’s army and hear its sound. The dust and the sound reached the sky.
