Chapter 96: Lakṣmaṇa Notices Bharata’s Army
Text 2.96.4
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे त्रस्ताः शब्देन महता ततः।
अर्दिता यूथपा मत्ताः सयूथा दुद्रुवुर्दिशः॥
etasminn antare trastāḥ śabdena mahatā tataḥ
arditā yūthapā mattāḥ sva-yūthād dudruvur diśaḥ
etasmin antare = in the meanwhile; trastāḥ = became frightened; śabdena mahatā = by that loud sound; tataḥ arditāḥ = agitated; yūthapāḥ = leaders of herds of animals; mattāḥ = excited; sva-yūthāt = away from their herds; dudruvuḥ = and fled; diśaḥ = in various directions.
In the meanwhile excited leaders of herds of animals became frightened by that loud sound, agitated and fled in various directions away from their herds.
“At that time” means “While hearing this sound.”
