Chapter 96: Lakṣmaṇa Notices Bharata’s Army
Text 2.96.12
उदङ्मुखः प्रेक्षमाणो ददर्श महतीं चमूम्।
रथाश्वगजसंबाधां यत्तैर्युक्तां पदातिभिः॥
udaṅ-mukhaḥ prekṣamāṇo dadarśa mahatīṁ camūm
rathāśva-gaja-sambādhāṁ yattair yuktāṁ padātibhiḥ
udak-mukhaḥ = towards the north; prekṣamāṇaḥ = looking; dadarśa = He noticed; mahatīm = a vast; camūm = army; ratha-aśva-gaja-sambādhām = crowded with chariots, horses and elephants; yattaiḥ = with well-equipped; yuktām = and filled; padātibhiḥ = infantry soldiers.
Looking towards the north, He noticed a vast army crowded with chariots, horses and elephants and filled with well-equipped infantry soldiers.
