अङ्गावेक्षस्व सौमित्रे कस्येमां मन्यसे चमूम्॥
taṁ rāmaḥ puruṣa-vyāghro lakṣmaṇaṁ pratyuvāca ha
aṅgāvekṣasva saumitre kasyemāṁ manyase camūm
tam = who had seen and spoken; rāmaḥ = Rāma; puruṣa-vyāghraḥ = prince; lakṣmaṇam = to Lakṣmaṇa; pratyuvāca ha = replied thus; aṅga = dear; avekṣasva = look at this army; saumitre = Lakṣmaṇa; kasya imām manyase camūm = who do You think this army that You see belongs to? tell Me.
Prince Rāma replied to Lakṣmaṇa who had seen and spoken thus, “Dear Lakṣmaṇa, look at this army. Who do You think this army that You see belongs to? Tell Me.”
“Look at this army” means “Look carefully at the sign of its flag.”
