Chapter 96: Lakṣmaṇa Notices Bharata’s Army

अग्निं संशमयत्वार्यः सीता च भजतां गुहाम्।
सज्यं कुरुष्व चापं च शरांश्च कवचं तथा॥
agniṁ saṁśamayatv āryaḥ sītā ca bhajatāṁ guhām
sajyaṁ kuruṣva cāpaṁ ca śarāṁś ca kavacaṁ tathā
agnim = the fire; saṁśamayatu = may put off; āryaḥ = the noble Rāma; sītā = Sītā-devī; ca = and; bhajatām = take shelter; guhām = of a cave; sajyam kuruṣva = string; cāpam ca = Your bows; śarān ca = get Your arrows; kavacam = put on Your armor; tathā = and.
May the noble Rāma put off the fire and Sītā-devī take shelter of a cave. String Your bow, get Your arrows and put on Your armor.
[Lakṣmaṇa requested Rāma] to put off the fire lest the army comes to Them by following the smoke [in the sky].
