Chapter 96: Lakṣmaṇa Notices Bharata’s Army
Text 2.96.19
असौ हि सुमहास्कन्धो विटपी च महाद्रुमः।
विराजते महासैन्ये कोविदारध्वजो रथे॥
asau hi sumahā-skandho viṭapī ca mahā-drumaḥ
virājate mahā-sainye kovidāra-dhvajo rathe
asau hi = that; sumahā-skandhaḥ = has branches; viṭapī = a large trunk; ca = and; mahā-drumaḥ = large tree [in the flag]; virājate = shines; mahā-sainye = in the midst of the great army; kovidāra-dhvajaḥ = a flag with a kovidāra tree; rathe = on a chariot.
A flag with a kovidāra tree shines on a chariot in the midst of the great army. That large tree [in the flag] has branches and a large trunk.
