Chapter 100: Rāma Instructs Bharata About the Duties of a King
Text 2.100.3
आघ्राय रामस्तं मूर्ध्नि परिष्वज्य च राघवः।
अङ्के भरतमारोप्य पर्यपृच्छत्समाहितः॥
āghrāya rāmas taṁ mūrdhni pariṣvajya ca rāghavaḥ
aṅke bharatam āropya paryapṛcchat samāhitaḥ
āghrāya = smelt; rāmaḥ = Rāma; tam = Him; mūrdhni = the head of Bharata; pariṣvajya = embraced; ca = and; rāghavaḥ = the descendant of Raghu; aṅke = on His lap; bharatam = Him; āropya = placed Him; paryapṛcchat = asked Him [as follows]; samāhitaḥ = [and then] with a composed mind.
Rāma, the descendant of Raghu, smelt the head of Bharata, embraced Him, placed Him on His lap and [then] with a composed mind asked Him [as follows].
Bharata was extremely distressed. [So] to remove His distress, Rāma instructed Him on dharma on the pretext of asking Him various questions.
