कच्चित्सर्वेऽनुरक्तास्त्वां कुलपुत्राः प्रधानतः।
कच्चित्प्राणांस्तवार्थेषु संत्यजन्ति समाहिताः॥
kaccit sarve ’nuraktās tvāṁ kula-putrāḥ pradhānataḥ
kaccit prāṇāṁs tavārtheṣu santyajanti samāhitāḥ
kaccit = is; sarve = every; anuraktāḥ = attached; tvām = to You; kula-putrāḥ = son of a kṣatriya family; pradhānataḥ = chief; kaccit = are; prāṇān = their lives; tava artheṣu = to accomplish Your purposes; santyajanti = ready to give up; samāhitāḥ = they with peaceful minds.
Is every chief son of a kṣatriya family attached to You? Are they with peaceful minds ready to give up their lives to accomplish Your purposes?1
1 “Chief son” appears to refer to the first male son in a family. “Peaceful minds” indicates that Rāma is not talking about persons who undergo mood swings and so on; He is talking of men with steady minds.
Kula-putrāḥ also indicates that Rāma was wondering if Bharata’s chief relatives were attached to Him.
