Chapter 100: Rāma Instructs Bharata About the Duties of a King
Text 2.100.48.
कच्चित्ते दयिताः सर्वे कृषिगोरक्षजीविनः।
वार्तायां संश्रितस्तात लोको हि सुखमेधते॥
kaccit te dayitāḥ sarve kṛṣi-go-rakṣa-jīvinaḥ
vārtāyāṁ saṁśritas tāta loko hi sukham edhate
kaccit = are; te = the vaiśyas; dayitāḥ = favorable to You; sarve = all; kṛṣi-go-rakṣa-jīvinaḥ = who subsist on agriculture and cow protection; vārtāyām = while trading 12; saṁśritaḥ = take shelter of You; tāta = dear child; lokaḥ = when the people; hi sukham edhate = they become increasingly happy.
Dear child, are all the vaiśyas who subsist on agriculture and cow protection favorable to You? When the people take shelter of You while trading, they become increasingly happy.
