Chapter 100: Rāma Instructs Bharata About the Duties of a King

कच्चित्स्त्रियः सान्त्वयसि कच्चित्ताश्च सुरक्षिताः।
कच्चिन्न श्रद्दधास्यासां कच्चिद्गुह्यं न भाषसे॥
kaccit striyaḥ sāntvayasi kaccit tāś ca surakṣitāḥ
kaccin na śraddadhāsy āsāṁ kaccid guhyaṁ na bhāṣase
kaccit = do You; striyaḥ = with Your wives; sāntvayasi = favourably deal; kaccit = are; tāḥ ca = they; surakṣitāḥ = well protected by You from conversing with other men and so on; kaccit = I hope; na = don’t; śraddadhāsi = You have faith in their words; āsām = to them; kaccit = I hope; guhyam = any secret; na = don’t; bhāṣase = You divulge.
Do You favorably deal with Your wives? Are they well protected by You from conversing with other men and so on? I hope You don’t have faith in their words. I hope You don’t divulge any secret to them.
“I hope You don’t have faith in their words” means “I hope You don’t take their words seriously, considering them to correspond to facts.”
By stating “I hope You don’t divulge any secret to them,” Rāma implies that there is the possibility of them disclosing them [to someone else] because women have fickle minds.
