दिवमार्यो गतो राजा यायजूकः सतां मतः॥
kekayasthe ca mayi tu tvayi cāraṇyam āśrite
divam āryo gato rājā yāyajūkaḥ satāṁ mataḥ
kekayasthe ca = was at Kekaya; mayi tu = when I; tvayi = You; ca = and; araṇyam āśrite = were in the forest; divam = to the heavens; āryaḥ = the noble; gataḥ = departed; rājā = king who was; yāyajūkaḥ = habituated to engaging in sacrificial performances 2; satām mataḥ = and who was honoured by the saintly.
“When I was at Kekaya and You were in the forest, the noble king who was habituated to engaging in sacrificial performances and who was honored by the saintly departed to the heavens.
Bharata then anticipated that Rāma might ask, “How long after I left [Ayodhyā] did the king depart to the heavens?” and spoke the next verse.
